Paul D. "Polo" Barnes:



- Born: November 22, 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana; Died: April 3, 1981 in New Orleans, Louisiana

- brother of Emile Barnes (jazz clarenetist)

- went to St. Paul Lutheran College

- played the clarenet and alto saxophone (didn't start playing the saxophone until 1919)

- played with the Maple Leaf Orchestra and the Original Tuxedo Band

Role - Melodic instrument in jazz bands.

History - It was created in 1841 by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian instrument maker. There are three other typer of

saxophone: tenor, bass, and baritone.
